Five thousand years of silence, and the sun still sets the same way.
The Altar Wedge Tomb at Toormore on the Mizen Peninsula is one of Ireland’s most evocative megalithic monuments — a portal wedge tomb dating back over 5,000 years, built by people who understood this landscape intimately and chose this precise spot, looking out toward the Atlantic, for reasons we can only imagine. In July 2024, as the sun dropped toward the sea and the hills of County Cork rolled away into the golden haze behind, this image was made — the ancient stones in the foreground, the ocean and the dying light beyond.
Some places feel timeless. This is one of them.
